Gifts from Old House Gardens are Easy and Unique! Why give a boring gift when you can give something different, gorgeous, and good for the planet from folks who treat every gift as if we were giving it ourselves?
Easiest of All, Our Lovely Gift Certificates Invite your favorite gardeners to open the treasure chest of our catalog with our beautiful, flower-spangled gift certificate cards. Every year at bloomtime, they’ll remember you!
With Maybe a Little Something Extra? For an even nicer presentation, many of our customers send an extra treat with their gift certificates: notecards from the Hortus, our cool OHG tote-bag or T-shirt, or maybe a book, (Spring-Blooming Bulbs, for example is just $10).
Year-Round: Totes, Shirts, Notecards, Books Some of our gifts we can ship year-round: notecards, books, OHG T-shirt, and OHG tote-bag. (Special tip: Tuck some small garden-related gifts into one of our totes and voilà — you’ve got a creative and memorable present!)
Give Bulbs Anytime — We’ll Ship at Planting Time Bulbs are living things with annual cycles set by Mother Nature. Some are best planted in the spring, others in the fall. So we ship our bulbs for spring planting in April, when temperatures here in Michigan finally climb above freezing, and our bulbs for fall planting in October. You can give them as gifts anytime — and we can send a card announcing your gift anytime (see below) — but please understand that we can’t ship them except in April or October.
Easy for You, Fun for Them: Samplers Like a box of chocolates, these specially selected collections of bulbs make gift-giving easier because you don’t have to choose every variety yourself. And gardeners love them because they get to sample many different bulbs. Click here for a full list of our Spring-Planted Samplers or our Fall-Planted Samplers.
How to Pick the Right Bulbs If you decide to give bulbs, be sure to choose ones that will thrive where you’re sending them. To start, find the recipient’s winter-hardiness zone at http://www.oldhousegardens.com/search_zone.aspx. Then enter that zone in our Search box to get a complete list of bulbs that will thrive there. Also, please note that most bulbs do best in full sun and well-drained soil.
Your Gift Message When we ship your gift, we’ll be glad to tuck a hand-written gift message inside the box. Please tell us exactly what you’d like it to say, and don’t forget to tell us how to start and end it. For example, do you want it to start “Dear James” or “Dear Grandpa”? And at the end should it say “Love, Beth” or “Yours truly, Beth and Roger Smith” or — please tell us!
Send a Card to Announce “Your Bulbs Will Arrive at Planting Time” If you want to give bulbs for Christmas or a summer birthday or any time we’re not shipping bulbs, no problem! We’d be happy to announce your gift by sending a lovely bulb-flowered card with whatever hand-written greeting you’d like us to add, for $2.50. Simply request this service in the Gift Orders section of our order form.
