| Wanted: Old Farmhouse, Barn, and 5-10 Acres Near Ann Arbor |

Old House Gardens needs a new place to grow, and we’re hoping our friends can help us find a small historic farmstead to move to and preserve. Founded in 1993, we’re the world’s only mail-order nursery devoted entirely to the preservation and sale of historic flower bulbs. We’ve outgrown the Old West Side house my wife and I live in, so we’re looking to buy a historic “farmette” somewhere nearby to move our business to. I’m convinced that the place we want is not for sale – yet. So if you can think of ANY place that fits these four requirements and that would welcome a preservation-minded, agricultural business like ours, we’d love to hear from you! We need: 1. An old farmhouse to use for our offices. Small to medium-sized would be best, and we’d love a fixer-upper that we could restore with TLC. 2. An old barn to ship bulbs from. Medium-sized and in reasonable shape would be ideal. 3. Five to ten acres of farmland, ideally with agricultural zoning. We want to start growing some of our rarest bulbs ourselves, and we always plant a big “trial garden” of everything we sell. 4. And here’s the toughest requirement: Within a 15 to 20-minute drive from 536 Third St. which is a couple of blocks from downtown Ann Arbor. We know there are lots of great places further away, but we really want to stay within this commuting distance. I have a preservation degree from EMU and our whole business is about saving relics from the past, so you can be sure we’ll treat whatever property we buy with respect and care. Our business is small, it’s all mail-order, and we ship bulbs for just three months of the year, so we’ll be relatively quiet neighbors. And our bulbs in bloom are gorgeous! Along with eternal gratitude, we’re offering FREE BULBS to anyone who can help us find a great old place that fits our needs.
